Our Commitment
Rollo’s Vikings is dedicated to breeding exceptional Black Russian Terriers (BRTs) with a deep passion for this magnificent and versatile breed. As lifelong dog lovers, we-Erik and Mary-take immense pride in our work, striving to make a positive and lasting contribution to the Black Russian Terrier community.
Our primary breeding goal is to advance the breed as a whole, focusing on improving overall health while maintaining excellence in conformation and temperament. We never lose sight of the original purpose of the breed, carefully balancing function, structure, and character in every generation. Improvements take time, and we are committed to moving our breeding program forward in a thoughtful and balanced direction.
All our litters are bred to meet or exceed the breed standards set by the Black Russian Terrier Club of America (BRTCA) and the FCI. We aim to produce dogs that are exemplary representatives in the conformation ring-powerful, elegant, and true to type. Beyond the show ring, our BRTs excel as service and therapy dogs, as devoted family companions and are capable of protection work. With the right socialization and training, Black Russian Terriers are a joy to live with and bring out the best in dedicated owners.
Our journey began over 15 years ago when Erik first met a Black Russian Terrier at a Dog Expo in the San Francisco Bay Area. After years of research, conversations with breeders, and attending AKC conformation shows, we welcomed our first BRT, Rollo, in 2021. Rollo quickly became an AKC Champion, earned his Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title, passed the American Temperament Test Society (ATTS) Temperament Test, and became a Registered Therapy Dog. Inspired by Rollo’s impact, we expanded our family with Raven, Valkyrie, Dahlia, and Astra.
Our dogs are not just show dogs-they are active members of our family and community. They participate in therapy work with the Alliance of Therapy Dogs and Paws 4 Friends, bringing comfort to hospitals, special needs centers, schools, and nursing homes. Our BRTs enjoy an active California lifestyle, joining us for hiking, swimming, and family adventures in all seasons. They are smart, friendly, and protective, thriving as true family dogs.
We are proud, active members and supporters of the Black Russian Terrier Club of America, the Black Russian Terrier Club of the West, and the San Joaquin Kennel Club. Mary currently serves as the Corresponding Secretary of the BRTCA and Vendor Chair of the San Joaquin Kennel Club.
At Rollo’s Vikings, our breeding focus is on superior health and temperament. Puppies are lovingly raised in our home, receiving meticulous care and socialization from day one. We carefully select breeding pairs that exemplify type, temperament, and genetic soundness, aiming to secure the future of healthy Black Russian Terriers while preserving genetic diversity.
We keep our clients closely connected through weekly updates, photos, and videos from the moment a deposit is placed. We are committed to professionalism and clear, informative communication with every family who joins the Rollo’s Vikings community.
